Jonas Salk was born on Oct. 28,1914 from Jewish parents.He had little formal education,just like Albert Einstein,but that problem didn't stop him.He had two brothers called Herman and Lee,who became psychologist. His family moved from East Harlem to Bronx,with some time spent in Queens.He went to Townsend Harris High school when he was 13 years old.That was a young age to go to high school.He was a gifted student.His grade enrolled him into City College of New York(CCNY). SO he was about 16 years old when he was going into college.He earned a Bachelor of science degree in 1934.While his mother was urging she put aside her dream of becoming a lawyer.But when Salk was a child,he didn't show any interest in medicine or science in general,he said in a interview with the Academy of Achievement. He was interested in studying human nature. Now after college,he got into medical school.
Although 200 applicant were Jewish,only 5 of them got in medical school,when he was going in.So then at 1952 Jonas Salk made a vaccine for the disease called Polio.But it was in the testing phases for three years.So at 1955 the vaccine was in the form of drops.by 1994,North and South America were polio free.Europe followed in 2002.Now,only three countries still have this deadly disease.
